Services

NYC Cognitive Behavioral specializes in state-of-the-art mindfulness informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Our centers are currently the only treatment centers in Brooklyn and Suffolk County with staff certified by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Many therapists refer to themselves as “cognitive therapists”, but very few are actually credentialed cognitive therapists. Furthermore, Dr. Sisti, also is a peer reviewed Acceptance and Commitment Therapist which integrates the newest generation experiential CBT concepts and interventions.  We focus on a full range of treatment needs, from making difficult life changes to addressing more complex diagnostic syndromes. Our commitment is to help our patients take effective action, live in a more balanced manner and become your most courageous self.

What services are available?

We are committed to providing the latest scientifically & evidenced based treatments to our patients. While the most common problems treated with CBT are anxiety disorders and depression, cognitive behavioral therapy has been proven effective for a wide variety of psychological problems.  Beyond anxiety and depression treatment, our treatments range from panic attacks to body image problems, dating skills, through maintaining relationship satisfaction and on-through life’s transitions (adolescence, early adulthood, midlife, aging parents, retirement, divorce, parenthood, death/grieving).

Virtual & Hybrid Sessions:
Use our online booking system to conveniently book a virtual session in seconds! Virtual therapy allows you to create a safe and comfortable therapy space that’s on your own terms with the added convenience of avoiding a commute and being able to have sessions anywhere. You and your therapist will be able to form a unique bond as virtual therapy can create a deepened sense of intimacy between you and your therapist. It gives you the opportunity to share your space with your therapist. This can provide meaningful insight and can help with your progress.

Individual Therapy:
The majority of patients at our center are utilizing individual therapy. We provide a variety of experienced therapists to address the entire age range of patients, from preschoolers to senior citizens. Most of our individual therapy is scheduled on a once a week basis, with sessions lasting 45 minutes. More frequent weekly visits are sometimes recommended for more intense issues or faster progress.

Children & Adolescents:
We have therapists that are trained to meet the special developmental needs of children with their emotional and behavioral difficulties.  Our therapists have gained valuable experience working in schools to gain first hand experience with the social and institutional challenges presented by school environments. With younger children, we help parents to simultaneously improve parental effectiveness and parental coping skills. Adolescents and their parents are often both facing a variety of stressful developmental changes, so individual adolescent sessions can be complimented with parent individual and family sessions.  This decision is a case by case choice and will be made with the particular needs of your child and family in mind.

Couples:
In addition to individual therapy, we offer relationship focused therapy for all types of relationships.  We have therapists who are sex positive and trained and experienced in working with heterosexual and LGBTQ+ couples, as well as with monogamous or consensually non monogamous couples and moresomes.  Our staff has been trained in relationship strengthening, skill based relationship therapies, such as Integrative Cognitive Behavioral Couples Therapy (ICBT) and Gottman Couples Therapy.  Contemporary relationship therapy helps partners to balance mutual problem solving with acceptance, challenging our relationship expectations. Other skills used to help develop and maintain intimate relationships include; positive tracking, active listening, pleasure planning, creating safe attachments, and challenging marital assumptions.  We also have sex therapists on staff (Sarah Levinson, LCSW) who can help relationships with this important aspect of intimacy.  To supplement relationship work, we intermittently offer weekend intensives.  These workshops can help to practice the skills leaned in sessions and aid in breakthroughs.

Professional Training and Supervision:
An equally important aspect of the center’s mission is our commitment to advancing the general knowledge of traditional cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) through the training of mental health professionals. Our center provides training for mental health professionals looking to learn traditional CBT as well as third wave therapies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). As a certified trainer in CBT, and as a peer reviewed trainer in ACT, we provide all levels of training from the fundamentals of cognitive therapy to those seeking to advance beyond the basics of cognitive therapy. The center is affiliated with several local universities (Long Island University, Hofstra, CW Post, Albert Einstein) and provides ongoing supervision for doctoral externs and interns. The staff also provides cognitive therapy seminars and symposia. These are intermittently offered through the center and/or in conjunction with various outside agencies and institutions. Research into CBT & ACT is also an ongoing aspect of what keeps the center current. Advancing the scientific bases of CT is also an ongoing commitment of the center
